Questa casa si trova nella Elgin Valley, a poco meno di un'ora di auto da Città del Capo, il che la rende la fuga perfetta per il fine settimana dalla città.

"È una forma architettonica molto pura e se riesci a rimanere fedele a esso e ad inserire alcune belle bucature e ad aprirne le estremità, è un modo fantastico di costruire" dice "e si inserisce molto bene nel suo contesto" senza disturbare la natura circostante.

I fienili prevedono una costruzione semplice e pratica, la struttura è in acciaio rivestita con lamiera ondulata all'esterno e in legno chiaro all'interno.
Sulle pareti laterali si aprono poche finetre racchiuse in profondi recessi di legno in modo da permettere di sedersi dentro.

L'elemento più rilevante degli interni, che sono semplici, come si addice ad una casa pensata per i weekend, è la grande parete specchiata del salotto che sfuma giocosamente la distinzione tra interno ed esterno sottolineando anche il fatto che la casa è in definitiva rivolta verso il portico esterno.

An elegant modern barn in Cape Town

This home is located in the Elgin Valley, just under an hour's drive from Cape Town, making it the perfect weekend getaway from the city.

"It is a very pure architectural form and if you can stay true to it and insert some beautiful holes and open the ends, it is a fantastic way of building" he says "and fits very well in its context" without disturbing the surrounding nature.

The barns have a simple and practical construction, the structure is in steel covered with corrugated sheet outside and light wood inside.
On the side walls there are a few windows enclosed in deep wooden recesses in order to allow you to sit inside.

The most relevant element of the interior, which is simple, as befits a house designed for weekends, is the large mirrored wall of the living room which playfully blurs the distinction between interior and exterior, also underlining the fact that the house is ultimately facing towards the external porch.

Lo studio di architettura Anarchitect ha trasformato due vecchi edifici in pietra negli Emirati Arabi Uniti in Al Faya Lodge, un hotel con spa nel deserto della Sharjah.

I paesaggi desertici drammatici con cieli aperti e condizioni climatiche estreme hanno sempre ispirato gli architetti contemporanei a progettare forme forti che utilizzano materiali locali.
In questo caso, il cemento lucidato, il granito e il travertino sono stati utilizzati per la loro durabilità, mentre il legno duro e l'intonaco sono stati scelti come materiali che sarebbbero invecchiati con gradevolezza in un clima estremo.
L'acciaio CorTen è stato utilizzato per evidenziare i volumi aggiuntivi contrastando volutamente con gli edifici esistenti.

L'hotel a 5 stelle di sole cinque camere più una suite comprende una sala da pranzo, sala di ricevimento, biblioteca e terrazza sul tetto.
Ogni camera ha lucernario per ammirare le stelle, la spa è dotata di una piscina di acqua salata all'aperto dallo stile elegante e minimale.

The SPA in the desert

The architecture firm Anarchitect has transformed two old stone buildings in the United Arab Emirates into Al Faya Lodge, a spa hotel in the Sharjah desert.

Dramatic desert landscapes with open skies and extreme climatic conditions have always inspired contemporary architects to design strong forms using local materials.
In this case, polished concrete, granite and travertine were used for their durability, while hardwood and plaster were chosen as materials that would have aged pleasantly in an extreme climate.
CorTen steel was used to highlight additional volumes by deliberately contrasting with existing buildings.

The five-star hotel with only five rooms plus one suite includes a dining room, reception room, library and roof terrace.
Each room has skylights to admire the stars, the spa is equipped with an outdoor saltwater pool with an elegant and minimal style.
