L'Afrormosia o Afromosia, Pericopsis elata, è un albero che cresce nell'Africa occidentale e per lo più viene importato dal Ghana, dal Camerun e dalla Costa d'Avorio.

Lo troverete commercializzato col nome di Teak Africano, in effetti ne è un buon sostituto, ha un bel colore, simile al teak, è duro e resistente, molto adatto ad essere utilizzato come parquet e per i deck esterni, non ha comunque la superba resistenza all'acqua del vero Teak, cosa che rende il legno di Afrormosia meno appetibile per l'industria nautica.

In altre parole, l'Afrormosia è un'ottima alternativa, anche decisamente più economica del Teak per il mercato dell'edilizia residenziale

Afrormosia or Afromosia, Pericopsis elata, is a tree that grows in West Africa and is mostly imported from Ghana, Cameroon and the Ivory Coast.

You will find it marketed under the name of African Teak, in fact it is a good substitute, it has a nice color, similar to teak, it is hard and resistant, very suitable to be used as parquet and for external decks, but it does not have the superb water resistance of true Teak, which makes Afrormosia wood less palatable for the nautical industry.

In other words, Afrormosia is an excellent alternative, even much cheaper than Teak for the residential building market.
