Lo studio di architettura Eifler & Associates Architects, con sede a Chicago, ha condotto una minuziosa ristrutturazione di una casa di F.L.Wright, finora raramente pubblicata, costruita per l'interior designer Louis B. Fredrick, a Barrington Hills, nell'Illinois.

Il rapporto fra l'architetto e il cliente non fu dei più idilliaci, Fredrick incaricò Wright nel 1954 e rifiutò i primi due progetti presentati, due anni dopo, nel marzo del 1956, la tensione tra gli uomini era arrivata a un punto tale che Wright mandò a Fredrick un telegramma caustico:

"Ci può essere solo un Louis Fredrick. Mi ha impressionato con l'idea che avesse bisogno di un architetto. Ora ci conosciamo meglio. Non sa cosa vuole e cosa non vuole. Ci è costato più fatica in termini di tempo e denaro di quanto non possa mai ripagare.
Se mai arriverà ad avere una casa, ne sarà lui l'architetto, e che Dio aiuti sia lui che la casa"



I grandi maestri dell'architettura hanno affrontato le stesse difficoltà che affrontiamo noi ogni giorno, cosa meno consolante di quanto possa sembrare...


Nonostante tutto giunsero ad un accordo quando Wright presentò una terza serie di progetti, nel Novembre del 1956, quello che Fredrick probabilmente non sapeva era che la proposta di Wright era una versione leggermente rivista di una casa progettata per George Dlesk a Manistee, nel Michigan!

Il progetto è una pianta lunga e snella parzialmente seminterrata di 240 metri quadri
Due corridoi finestrati partono dal blocco centrale, il primo termina in una sala giochi, mentre l'altro conduce a tre camere da letto, tra cui la suite principale.

La meticolosa ristrutturazione ha rispettato i caratteri della casa, dalle tegole del tetto alla tinta del pavimento in cemento, realizzando persino i mobili progettati su misura da Wright per il progetto, ma che non erano mai stati costruiti prima.

The relationship between the architect and the client was not the most idyllic, Fredrick commissioned Wright in 1954 and refused the first two projects presented, two years later, in March 1956, the tension between men had reached such a point that Wright he sent Fredrick a caustic telegram:

"There can be but one Louis Fredrick. He has impressed me with the idea that he needed an architect. We know better now. He does not know what he wants nor what he does not want. He has cost us more pains in time and money therefore than he can ever repay. If ever he gets into a house he will be the architect and God help both him and the house."

The great masters of architecture have faced the same difficulties that we face every day, which is less comforting than it may seem ...

In spite of everything they came to an agreement when Wright presented a third series of projects, in November 1956, what Fredrick probably didn't know was that Wright's proposal was a slightly revised version of a house designed for George Dlesk in Manistee, Michigan!

The project is a long, slender, partially basement plant of 240 square meters
Two windowed corridors start from the central block, the first ends in a games room, while the other leads to three bedrooms, including the main suite.

The meticulous renovation has respected the character of the house, from the roof tiles to the color of the concrete floor, even realizing the custom-designed furniture by Wright for the project, but which had never been built before.
